Just as the clinic was closing, a patient arrived at the door in distress and exhibiting signs of post-partum depression. Recognizing the condition, the clinic team rallied together to help this mother and her small children, and connected her with the services she needed.
The nominator, Geraldine Wahlay, Nurse Manager of Duke OB/GYN, wrote, “Even though the staff was leaving for the day, they quickly realized that this patient needed immediate attention. Each of the staff members put their personal needs aside and became the emergency response team. There is little preparation for a situation like this, but I am proud of this team and how they pulled it, and kept it, together. And in doing so, the patient and her family made it through this difficult time. The patient came back a few weeks later for her postpartum visit and I am happy to report she is doing well.”
