Dr. Brewer provides oversight for the development and practice of nursing and patient care staff across Duke Health Integrated Practice clinical settings. She leads efforts to transform clinical practice and ensure provision of quality care in accordance with federal, state, and local practice standards and regulations. This includes professional development, monitoring and evaluation of patient care activities, accountability for practice compliance, resource allocation, and relevant activities to improve patient outcomes.

Dr. Brewer also works collaboratively with nurses and leaders to ensure orientation, training and competence for patient care staff.

Dr. Brewer is clinical associate adjunct faculty at Duke University School of Nursing and a nurse researcher.  She is actively involved in research related to sickle cell self-care management and decreasing stigma in sickle cell disease. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the Distinguished Alumnus Award of Duke University School of Nursing and NC Central University Nursing School. She was also awarded the Outstanding Alumni Service Award from UNC-CH School of Nursing. She has co-authored several publications and presents in various forums

Dr. Brewer received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from North Carolina Central University, a Master of Science degree in Nursing Administration from Duke University, and a PhD Degree in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
